The Waupaca Area Public Library has set up a StoryWalk near one of the local parks. If you are in the area, check it out! Waupaca is a great place to visit during the summer because of the Chain of Lakes, the great shops and StrawberryFest (see Plan Ahead).
StoryWalk promotes literacy and physical fitness. Families are encouraged to participate in this No Child Left Inside activity. All are welcome to take a short hike on the River Ridge Trail at Swan Park and enjoy the children's book posted along the trail. (Access the StoryWalk by heading south from the ball park concession stand.)

Library staff will change the story every 2-3 weeks. Now featuring Butterfly Garden by Margaret McNamara (Robin Hill School Series). When a package arrives on Mrs. Connor's desk, everyone is eager to find out what's in it. Mrs. Connor hints that it's something that changes from one thing to another. The children soon discover that it's not a monster or a superhero, but a jar with five caterpillars. The class is going to learn about the life cycle of butterflies They patiently watch as the caterpillars eat and eat and grow and grow, become chrysalises, and then emerge as beautiful butterflies. And all the children agree that butterflies are "even better than a superhero."
The StoryWalk experience is free. Visitors are encouraged to share their experience by commenting here on the date of their visit, how many people were in their party, and any comment or suggestion they may have for the project. Photos of you on the trail are welcome, too. Sponsored by the Waupaca Area Public Library and the Waupaca Park & Recreation Dept.
The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coaltion and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
