Heart-shaped Crayon Valentine

Use up those old, broken crayons

By Becky Schonscheck/Laura Miller February 8, 2012

Chances are good that if you have kids, you have broken crayons too. Here's a great idea for using up your old crayons (also giving you an excuse to buy new ones). The kids can help peel off the paper, or you can try this method for removing the paper without peeling. And kids can help put the crayon pieces in the pan.

Here's what you do:

After you have the paper removed from the crayons, place the pieces in a heart-shaped silicone pan and bake at 250 degrees for 10 minutes. Let them cool, then pop them out.

You can let the kids color with them, or you can create Valentines for their friends, as pictured. Just cut out heart shapes from fun paper, making sure they are larger than the crayons, then write your Valentine's sentiment on the paper and let your child sign his/her name. Attach the crayon to the paper with a piece of tape, or try the double-sided foam tape for extra stick.
