Move With Me! Kids' Yoga Program

By Kelly Keefe February 29, 2012

Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign has vowed to change an entire generation of kids through encouraging a healthy active lifestyle. According to Let’s Move, children need a total of  60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous activity to grow up to a healthy weight. Finding ways to get kids excited about active play and develop healthy lifestyle habits as early as possible is key to fighting our current obesity epidemic.

Over the past 30 years obesity rates in American children have tripled and if we don’t do something about it those rates are sure to increase.  Childhood obesity leaves in its wake a myriad of related health issues as the child grows. Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and asthma are just a few conditions that an obese child may face in adulthood.

Between TV, computers, video games, and other new technologies that tempt children into a sedentary lifestyle we are facing a serious health crisis. As parents, policymakers, and educators it is our obligation to give our children ample opportunity and encouragement to get up and move and once again make childhood about PLAY!

Play is actually "nature's biological plan for learning" (J. Pearce, author of The Magical Child).  It is through play activities and sensory exploration of the world that the brain-body systems all develop optimally.  Young children are eager to move and play  because they are innately programmed to do so to grow physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially. Support children in laying a foundation for health and success by playing with them.

Move with Me Action Adventures are designed to make it fun and easy to provide and share those 60 minutues daily of vigorous and instructional movement with your kids.
