Organizational Tip of the Week

Week 1

By Macaroni Kid January 18, 2012

Each week I will feature an organizational tip of the week. These were all submitted by Macaroni Kid publishers from across the country. If you have an organizational tip to share, post a comment or send me a note at lauram@macaronikid.com

Week 1:

Minimizing Closets

At the end of the year I turn all my hangars around so they are backwards on the rod. Once I've worn something, I hang it back up correctly. At the end of the year, it's easy to see what I've worn and what I haven't. I've gone through all seasons, so then I take the clothes that are still backwards and figure out why I haven't worn them. If they don't quite fit ("but if I just lose 10 pounds ...") or I don't like the way they look on me then it's time to ditch them. If they need a new button, new zipper, or hemming, I take them to the tailor or ditch them. Of course there are some items like fancy dresses that only get worn once every couple of years, but those are in garment bags to protect them so it's easy to keep them separate. -Kyrie, Highland Ranch-Parker, CO
